Happy Faces pre & primary school.
There has been a level of Corporate sponsorship which is so encouraging. As the school has pursued registration, well kept books, auditing, processes and policies schedules which are in place, up to date and transparent, and most importantly community involvement, there has been more confidence in supporting the work.
The companies that have contributed are :
- Pick and Pay, with food gift vouchers and weekly vegetables, fruits and bakery.
- CSC, with several computers with large flat screens. This equipment is used in STEM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
- Old Mutual, a cash donation which was used to upgrade a classroom and buy some equipment, like a trampoline.
- DSD – Early childhood development grant for Grade 0 children.
- National Lottery Commission (2017 & 2019) for building upgrades and children equipment, a container classroom, toilets and staff training. DSD – ECD grant for Grade 0 children.
- DG Murray Trust provided seed funding for therapists to assess the children and to build capacity. DSD – ECD grant for Grade 0 children.
- MSC, an Australian Catholic organisation that donated money for the drilling of a second borehole, when the existing one dried up. DG Murray Trust provided seed funding for therapists to assess the children and to build capacity. DSD – ECD grant for Grade 0 children.
- The Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF) which is head quartered in Tzaneen have sent their staff to interact with the children during Mandela day. This has happened two years in a row.
- Hillside Mission farm has been donating Avocados in bulk to us.
- ANBInvestments has donated equipment two years in a row.
Focus up to this point has been to ensure the following:
– the basic infrastructure is in place (toilets, classrooms etc),
– the staff have a responsible approach to their work and learners,
– an extensive syllabus is available that is understood and practiced by staff,
– regular staff meetings occur to build a close relationship with the teachers and also be aware of any anomolies that occur,
– parent/teacher meetings are held at least once a term,
– board (SGB: School governing body) meetings occur at least three times a year,
– that all necessary certification is in place and adherence to the laws relating to schools (DSD (project certificate), Dept of Education (EMIS no.), Unemployment Insurance (UIF), and Status 18A (PBO).
